At the SoCal Surf Dogs Holiday party held a Peter & Gabi’s house, we raised $300.00 in cash and checks for our dog food drive! This was enough to purchase 6 pallets of dog food from the Rescue Bank, www.RescueBank.org, a National Pet Food Distribution Program that distributes pet food to approved Rescue Organizations, Community Animal Shelters, Community Service Organizations, Dog / Cat Sanctuaries, Feral Cat Related Organizations and Disaster Relief / Emergency Aid (Animal Welfare). The local group is the Animal Rescue Resource Foundation (ARRF) http://www.arrf.cc/ (A 501(c) 3 Non-profit organization) All Rescue groups are prequalified so the food goes where it’s needed. While the food is donated from pet food manufacturers, the transportation of the product is not. Rescue Bank arranges for the trucking (semi sized loads) to pick up the food available from the companies donating the product and delivers it to local distribution affiliates for re-distribution to the qualifying organizations. These qualifying organizations pay a handling fee to help offset the cost of trucking. Each $50 SoCal Surf Dog donation helped buy a pallet of dog food. This month, each pallet included approximately 1000 lbs of ‘Nutro Ultra’ dog food valued at over $1,900 retail. On Thursday, December 15, 2011, the SoCal Surf Dogs were please to help 3 groups here in Southern California with the purchase of one pallet for each group. They were: Special thanks to SoCal Surf Dog Member Craig Haverstick for suggesting
this organization as a SoCal Surf Dog Cause to support. We also want to thank Barbara Henderson for her work with this awesome group of volunteers. She helps organize the pick up and deliveries and also made a special trip to pick up the SoCal banners for the photos. Big Woof Woof to all the SoCal Surf Dogs members who generously donated to this cause! Let’s keep this going!!! Please help by donating what ever you can. It doesn’t take much! I’ll take cash and/or checks! Make a check out to: ARRF You can send it to me at: 11554 Parkhurst Square San Diego, Ca. 92130 We will be donating the funds for 3 more pallets to other deserving groups here in Sothern California in January. Watch our 'Newsflash' and future 'Newsletters' for who the recipients are of the next 3 pallets. On Sunday morning, December 11, 2011, Maxime Blondet and Jerome Alexandre from TF1, (a TV station in Paris France) and ‘Les Films de la Chance’, came to Dog Beach in Del Mar to do a story about Dog Surfing and the SoCal Surf Dogs. The program will air next year on TF1, the biggest television network in France. When we first got to the beach, it was was only 48 degrees with overcast skys. There was a light, cold offshore breeze and the water was only 58 degrees. However, as the morning went along, the sun came out and it was just another beautiful, awesome, sunny Southern California day at the beach! The SoCal Surf Dogs showed them just how much fun we have as a group surfing with our dogs! They also learned about how much the SoCal Surf Dogs give back! Special thanks to all the SoCal Surf Dogs and their Owners who came to participate including: Bodie, Deagen, Dozer, King, Louie, Nani and Stanley. Can’t wait to see the finished story. ‘Plan a Petcation’ on The Travel Channel Sunday, December 11, 2011 at 10:00 am. Here’s a sneak peak! http://www.travelchannel.com/video/plan-a-petcation From - SoCal Surf Dog Member and Float participant Craig Haverstick
What - Float test run. Where - On the streets surrounding Fiesta Floats. When - December 17 at 7am sharp. Why - Rose Parade committee has to measure, inspect the float, and give the thumbs up to travel down Colorado Blvd on Jan 2nd. No thumbs up means we have to fix items and complete another test run. We also conduct a fire drill during the test run and yes, the wave pool might catch on fire! Watch the Natural Balance TV show for scenes from the 2011 test run and see if we passed inspection. See the TV show at http://vimeo.com/18270215 (Float test run is near the end of the show.) The float will be in a rough\not decorated condition and I anticipate we will be surfing the dogs. We usually get rolling on time (7am) and finish up around 9am. If anyone is interested please contact Craig for more details. This is a unique opportunity to see the float up close before it is decorated. The test runs can be viewed by the public since they occur on public streets. |
