Gnarley canines were ripping some serious H2O along Galveston Beach last weekend, as dozens of four-legged participants gathered for the first annual Dog Surf Competition. Sponsored by local surf shop Ohana, the Sunday event drew scores of curious onlookers while patient humans coaxed their animal companions onto the waves with rather surprising results. "We've taught kids and adults how to surf for nine years now and thought it was time to try a new species," laughs Ohana co-owner William "Boog" Cram, who helped organize the contest to raise funds for the Galveston Island Human Society.
