The first was the Loews Coronado Bay Resort.
In 2005 the Loews Coronado Bay Resort wanted a way to promote their Pet Friendly Hotel. They developed a program called “Loews Loves Pets” where guests could stay at the hotel with their dogs. Loews offered a menu developed specifically for the guest dogs and each dog was welcomed with a gift basket. They then turned it up a notch by offering Surfing Lessons for guest dogs! |

During this same time, the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe was looking for another way to promote their Animal Shelter. Helen Woodward’s President Mike Arms met with Sponsorship Manager Nedra Abramson and asked her to “get her people involved”.
Nedra, a surfer herself, started making calls. In a short time she had secured the support of Mike Emerson, then President of the Swamis Surfing Association and Pat Vergne, the Chief Lifeguard and Director of Community Services in Del Mar, California. |
